Palestine, 1936. In the middle of the British Mandate, a major uprising begins to spread like wildfire and threatens to spill beyond the edges of the empire. Palestinian towns rise up against British colonial rule, while the territory becomes the scene of mounting political and social tension. The increase in Jewish immigration— mostly people fleeing the rampant antisemitism in Europe—intertwines with the mobilization of the Palestinian population in what will become the longest revolt against British rule during the three decades of the Mandate. In this convergence of tensions, all the forces involved seem driven toward an inevitable collision, at a crucial moment not just for the British Empire but for the future of the entire region.
