Regulations for the 12th edition of the Granada Cines del Sur Festival.

art.1

The Granada Cines del Sur Festival aims to disseminate and promote the cinematographies of countries typically associated with the geopolitical South. It will foster encounters with both established creators and new talents, showcasing new productions alongside emblematic and historically significant titles. Granada thus becomes an annual hub for the cinemas of the South.

art.2

The Granada Cines del Sur Festival will be held annually, with the dates determined by agreement of the competent body. Its next edition will take place from May 23 to 30, 2026.

The Festival will consist of the following sections:

A. OFFICIAL COMPETITION FEATURE FILMS
Feature films (fiction, animation, experimental, or documentary) produced or co-produced in Africa, Asia, or Latin America are eligible to compete. Films must have been produced in the year of the Festival or the immediately preceding year, and must not have been commercially exhibited in Spain or submitted to competition at another Spanish Festival. The screening format will be DCI-compliant 2K DCP or, failing that, 25 fps BLURAY, or other professional digital formats. The screening copy must be in original version (V.O.) with English or French subtitles; if the original language is Spanish, the screening copy must have English subtitles.

B. KEY OF THE SOUTH
Feature films (fiction, animation, experimental, or documentary) co-produced between a European country and a country in Africa, Asia, or Latin America are eligible to compete. Films must have been produced in the year of the Festival or the immediately preceding year, and must not have been commercially exhibited in Spain or submitted to competition at another Spanish Festival. The screening format will be a high-definition digital file with a minimum resolution of 1080p or, failing that, 25 fps BLURAY. The screening copy must be in original version (V.O.) with English or French subtitles; if the original language is Spanish, the screening copy must have English subtitles.

C. ITINERARIES/OPEN SCREEN
A non-competitive section featuring fiction, animation, experimental, or documentary feature films produced or co-produced in Africa, Asia, or Latin America in the year of the Festival or the immediately preceding year; it is not a requirement that they have not been previously exhibited in Spanish territory.

D. MONOGRAPHIC SECTIONS, RETROSPECTIVES, AND CYCLES
These sections will feature films of recognized cinematic quality. They can be grouped by nations, themes, schools, directors, or any other criterion adopted by the Directorate. There will be no production date limitation.

E. CINEMAS OF THE SOUTH IN THE PROVINCE
An extension of the festival to various municipalities in the province of Granada, developed in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Granada. It comprises titles that have participated in previous editions of Cines del Sur. The selected titles will be shown in several municipalities in the province of Granada and will be screened in original version with Spanish subtitles.

JURY
The Jury will be composed of renowned professionals from the cinematographic and cultural fields, representing the main geographical areas covered by the Festival. Individuals with interests in the production or exploitation of films submitted to the competition may not be part of the jury.

AWARDS
The Jury will decide on the following awards, which cannot be left vacant or be shared (ex-aequo):

- Golden Alhambra: for the best film, with a prize of €5,000 for the production company.
- Key of the South: Award for Best Co-production Feature Film: with a prize of €3,000 for the production company. This award is open to Arab films participating in the Key of the South section.
- Special Jury Award. No monetary prize.
- Audience Award: granted by attendees of the screenings. No monetary prize.

TAX WITHHOLDING ON AWARDS: Monetary prizes will be subject to tax withholding in accordance with Spanish law. When payments are made to foreign individuals and/or companies, the existence of a double taxation avoidance agreement between Spain and the recipient's country will be taken into account in each case. In such cases, award winners who wish to pay these withholdings in their own country must provide a certificate of tax residency in the corresponding country. This document must be accompanied by a sworn translation into English.

GENERAL CONDITIONS AND LOGISTICS

REGISTRATION
The registration process will be carried out via Filmfreeway or by prior invitation from the festival organization.

Film Submission

SUBMISSION OF COPIES
Copies of selected films must be received by the Festival by May 10, 2026. The Festival will cover round-trip transportation costs for screening copies, unless the copy originates from or is sent to another festival.

PRESS AND ADVERTISING
Selected films must submit: press book, still photos, promotional posters (min. 50x70 cm), HD clips or trailers without watermarks. This material must be available by April 10th.
