This directory compiles the glossaries from all editions of Cines del Sur: eleven already held and the twelfth currently underway. It serves as a living memory of the festival, its films, guests, sections, and spaces for reflection on the cinemas of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Arab world. Here you can trace the evolution of its programming, rediscover filmmakers, and follow the thematic threads that have defined Cines del Sur's identity as a meeting point for cultures, perspectives, and ways of understanding cinema from the Global South.
Youness, an elderly taxi driver, takes a young woman to the hospital at the end of his workday, unaware of what awaits him there. With this simple story, Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi offers a narrative about people who help others without knowing them beforehand and who remain anonymous once that help has concluded. This dimension is built upon minimal dialogue, as conversation is often a source of misunderstanding.Today reflects on the situation of women in Iranian society and becomes a life lesson made of half-spoken words and many silences that we sense are full of meaning and profound truths.
