Eduardo Coutinho was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1933. A pivotal figure in Latin American documentary filmmaking, he worked as a journalist for a long time. He authored texts on Brazilian cinema published in various newspapers and magazines. He studied film at the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques (IDHEC) in Paris. In 1975, Coutinho joined the Globo Repórter team. In 1984, he left the company and dedicated himself to video documentary production. From 1999 onwards, he returned to film production with Santo Forte. Jogo de Cena is his tenth feature film. His unique filmmaking methods, and his ability to understand and present his subjects, form the foundation of the Brazilian filmmaker's documentaries.
