In Nigeria, a group of teenagers brought the collective The Critics to life. With limited resources but an overflowing passion for cinema, they create handmade science fiction universes: their own village transforms into a set, the green screen is stitched together stitch by stitch, and the cast emerges from the neighborhood children. In their films, the everyday is transformed into dreamlike and overflowing landscapes, halfway between escapism and a refuge from reality. In Crocodile, the members of The Critics inhabit both sides of the camera: they act, film, and dream their stories. Director Pietra Brettkelly delicately weaves their words and images into this documentary, crafting a narrative that inspires enthusiasm and leaves the viewer with a radiant smile.
