Tucumán, Argentina, 2014. A young woman arrives at a hospital, suffering from unbearable abdominal pain. She doesn't know she's pregnant. Hours later, she wakes up to an unfamiliar scene: she's handcuffed to a gurney, guarded by police who accuse her of having terminated her own pregnancy. What follows is a long and suffocating process. She spends two years in pre-trial detention, and ultimately, the justice system sentences her to eight years in prison for aggravated homicide due to the familial bond. Her story, however, doesn't end there. From Tucumán, a lawyer (played by the film's director, Dolores Fonzi) decides to take on the case and challenge the sentence. Around Belén, an unexpected support network begins to grow: thousands of women and organizations mobilize, denounce, and offer support.
